Mechatronic material self-organizes into a pulsing time crystal

Scientists built an active elastic metamaterial in which vibrations spontaneously grow in wavelength, period and amplitude until the whole structure pulses in unison as a globally synchronized time crystal. They suggest it points toward robots that behave more like living systems.
Why it matters It is an experimental demonstration that a driven material can organize its own collective rhythm, a step toward adaptive machines.
